Yap

Terms

Last updated 1 October 2026

These terms cover the optional Yap account service, run by Nathan Lawrie. The Yap app itself is open-source software under the MIT License, and you can use it without an account.

Your account

One person per account. You're responsible for keeping access to the email address or sign-in provider you use, since that's how you get into the account.

Fair use

Please don't misuse the service: no attempts to break or overload it, no automated or bulk sign-ups, and no use that breaks the law. Studying and modifying the open-source app is welcome under its licence.

The service

The account service is provided as it is, and may change as Yap develops. If we ever wind account features down we'll try to give notice first. Dictation on your PC doesn't depend on the account service and keeps working regardless.

Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in Yap under Settings → Account. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.

Paid features

There are none today. If we add any, they'll come with clear prices and their own terms before you're charged anything.

No warranty and liability

To the extent the law allows, the service comes without warranties, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.

Changes

If these terms change we'll update this page and its date. Continuing to use your account after that means you accept the new terms.

Law

These terms are governed by Scots law. You can bring a claim in the Scottish courts or, if you live elsewhere in the UK, in the courts where you live. If you live outside the UK, you also keep the protection of your own country's consumer laws.
